21st November 2005, 09:05 PM
Hey i just thougt make a thread so people that have had stuff stolen can go about some ways of getting it back so if you know so options post up.
I had my bike flogged from me back it july and still havn't seen it.

Best thing would prob be security LOCK IT UP and get engine and frame numbers.

1.Call cops, most don't care but its best to let them no just incase they come across it.
2.Tell as many people that its been taken most people will notice a bike on the back of a car or out riding.
3.Put flyers up it works when i got my first bike taken we put flyers up and we got it back it was a bit worst for wear but we got it back.

Thats all i can think of at the moment but if post up.

anotha good idea is if your rich, on the door of your shed or garage or whereva u keep your bike on the door get a key pad thingo, and just have like 20 things to press on the keypad and u gotta press like 4 numbas to get it. and if the robbas try smash it down ull probably hear it

Just keep it quiet. Cant trust anyone these days, don't let many people know you got a bike and it should be alright. And when travelling home always keep looking in your mirror's and make sure you aren't being followed. And if you can don't start your bike up when your at home, it's a massive giveaway.

And if you can get your bike insured.

-if youre locking it in your garage try to secure it to a pole/post(DONT have a hacksaw in it though)

-Get at least a Xena lock(in built alarm) so it'll wake u up if touched over night.

-If you can be bothered, remove front wheel when not riding and keep elsewhere

GET A ROTTY!!!

[QUOTE=Axel57] And when travelling home always keep looking in your mirror's and make sure you aren't being followed.

that happend to my mate! he realised these ppl had been behind him for the whole trip home(about 40 mins!) and they stopped at any service station and maccas and crap that he did! so wat he did was wen he got close to home he just did laps up and down the main street of his suburb and he even waved to them everytime he turned around at the end of the street and as soon as he did that the guys drove off! so he sped home and quickly put his bike away!

That is like the best idea!! If you have a steel shed wire up some sort of system hooked up to a Truck battery and when they touch the shed it will electify the **** out of them and just have a switch hiden somewhere around the shed to turn it on and off or even put a timer on it, Say 9pm to 6am and that way theres less chance you will get zapped

my dad bike a while ago got stolen from the shed i cant remember wat type of bike it was i was pretty young then i think it was one of them beasty 500 2 strokes, anyway he had it in his massive 4 bay shed all the doors were locked ( when he bought the shed he had the doors reinforced with heavy steel to make it a it harder to get into, all the windows were caged in and stuff , even with all that security the fu*&ers still got it, they had got onto the roof using a slightly smalled shed next to the big shed got on the roof and unbolted a peice of the roofing (id like to know how they got to the floor from the roof :S) we were in thailand at the time so they had all the time in the world and since the front rotar was pad locked they took the time to use our tools to pull the wheel off and take off the rotar then left... just shows wat desperate ppl will go through to get a bike

cheers fella's

i dont even padlock my bike, just have it on the front verandah on its stand....so anybody coming down the driveway can see it.....but i kinda live remote so it all good....but i think i will start to padlock it, put some mines around it, trip wires, sensor guns that go off from movement, an air raid ready to bomb the shit outta em and plus possibly a few nukes....

also my mob got stolen about 2 weeks and the bloody pricks rang me up on the house phone and laughed at me..howz that....cos all my numbers r on it

the best defence you have is not giving it away you have a bike try to load it or unload it early morning or if your unloading do it at night and out of sight if possible in the house is a good idea but then alot of you blokes are gonna get your asses kicked by mum for dirtying her carpets haha

oi i reckon like three quarters of the blokes who steal bikes ride aswell. anybody who owns a bike knows the worry of their bike getting stolen. I cant believe that ppl would steal off their fellow riders.
plus the unfortunate thing is that we'll never be able to stop them completely, cos every deterant has flaws.

When i was living by myself i had a few trip over wire's down the sides on my house with all sorts of dangous stuff to fall on near by.

Best thing i guess is to keep your bike on the down low... dont let anyone know about it unless they are your regular riding mates. And avoid people with drug problems, they the ones stealing stuff.

And for god's sake dont clean the bike on the front lawn... i see it all the time, and this is on main roads i drive down every day.

really strong chains going throught the frame and i put a pad lock on the back sprocket and one on the front disc. and plus i know the last two ppl who tryde to cous my boss court them and the next day i beat the living S H I T OUT OF THEM now ther going around in a wheel chair

if its possible, strip the whole bike down when you get it, and get your name engraved into the frame behind where people cant see it.....then if you come across it, you will definetly know its yours. we used to park our truck in front of the garage door so its not possible for the thieves to go around it.......and on the side door of my garage, my quad used to be next to it so if they attempted to try and take it out through the sie, they would have to go around a sit on lawnmower, 4wheeler, motorcycle, little dirtbike and the sled! and the garage is only small, its hard enough to get around when the big door is open, let alone manoeuvre around everything and get it out through the side door

Last tuesday night i got my too bikes stolen(ktm exc 250 and my thumpy).I went too work on wednesday morning(i didnt know they were stolen) And at about 11 am my now ex girlfriend rang me up and said your bikes have been stolen,(as you can imagine i was real pissed off,so in my lunch break i went up to my local bike shop and told the owner(my close mate)that theyve been stolen soo we drove around town loooking for them but we couldnt find them.We had a fair idea who took them(a group of 16-17 year old thatve been stealing ,motos around here for ages)so we went and found the leader whos a cockhead nephew of my mates and asked him if he had anything too do with it and he said 'no(obviously he did)but i know were they are' he said so he took us about 2km into bushland and there they were with a heap of other bike parts and plastics.Him and his mates all got a smack in the mouth and a few shiners for ther trouble, and they got reported too the police and they took one of them in and charged him with stealing the bikes and a heap of other shit and the copa told us held be getting around 2 years in juvi.and now ive got my bikes back...The moral of this story is too check around your local trails if you get your bikes stolen, coz most of these theives are too scared too take them home as they think there gunna get cought..
just my story.

Ben

who is actually going to take the time to use the information in this thread to steal a bike??

they gotta find u first

Then ur taking a pretty big gamble that what the person typed in this thread was truth e.g my bike is kept in my pool shed. and i leave the key to my house hanging up on the 6th branch up from the tree closest to the back door.

Now imagine if u spent all that time and hours just locating my house to find out i dont even have a 6th branch on that treeee ..

a few people in the uk told me a trick to do when you're going away for a while. chain your bike to a land anchor and smear a credit card sized dollop of grease on the brake discs. When you get home just clean it off and she'll be fine, but say anyone's dumb enough to take the bike they'll get a nice surprise on the first corner...

there have been a heap of bikes getting stolen around here lately. my mates crf250 was locked in his garage during the day someone jumped the fence broke open the back door of the shed the bike wasnt chained up like usual cause we had been riding the day before and it was dirty and was about to be washed. they pulled the roller door string thing the alarm went off he put his helmet on got onto the drive way and stalled it the neighbour waved to him thinking it was the owner going for a ride then realised the alarm was going off but it was to late. mines not locked up or anything the shed is actually far way away from the house and thats not even locked but im careful who i let in my house and around my sh*t. i might now get a mate to install an alarm.

hmmm an idea....wat if u wedge a bit of cardboard or something between the brake pad and the rotor (disc brakes obviously) were it cant be seen so that wen they try n push it it wont budge. If they are doing it at night they dont have the light and the time to figure out wtf is going on.Also, include a chain just incase lol :joker:
just an idea

17th November 2008, 09:43 PM
how do you plan to get the cardboard inbetween the pad and the rotor tight enough to lock the wheel up. because if you push the pistons back, and put the card board in. and pump it back up again its still not going to stay tight... otherwise it would just stay tight on the rotor itself...

that or dont be a c0ck F*#K and say:
hey come to mine check out my bike. see right there is where i leave it in my open shed the key to the lock is just behind the pile of wood and being an open shed dont worry about a noisy door as its open! and i leave all my gear in that strategically placed cardboard box right next to my bike. with ALL my gear hlemet and boots included.
and if ya want it. my car keys sit in the ignition and my car sits out on the road. now i trust that you, only have met your for 10 minutes, will keep this a secrect and not tell anyone. look. i dont care if your black, you must be trust worthy

Data Dot DNA works well. A homing beacon for ur bike if it ever gets stolen. Costly but extremely worth it.

all that stuff is good but if you want a simple way without spending too much money or putting in alot of effort get a disc brake lock, u can get them from most motorcyle shops only put you back about $30. like to see them scummy crooks try to move a heavy bike when the wheels dont move. and along with that put a bell or sumthing on the garage door or werever you keep it, doesnt have to be load enough for u to hear it but if it makes enough noise the robbers are gunna get sus that some1 might of heard it and will leave b4 u kick there ass.

i gota mate and one night he got up to chuck a piss, while he was pissing he looked out the window towards his shed and in the darkness he saw a dark figure walkin around his shed then open the side door and walk in (he thoguth he locked it but clearly he forgot). so he put his c*ck away and called the police then grabbed a bat and sneaked outside then just lent up against the wall right next to the door and just waited and eventually he sawthe front wheel of his bike comin out and mate was pushin it out the door so then my mate bashed the *** out of him and then the cops came and got him. and he told the cops that the robba was trying to hit my mate so he didnt get in trouble cos it was under self defence. and of course the cops are gunna believe you over some f*ck ar$e crminal trying to steal a motorbike.

but yeah dnt ask me why he didnt have pad locks or somethin on his bike as well as the shed locked!!!

a really good investment is those sensor light that turn on when ever they detect movement and have them pointing at ur shed or where ever your bike is. cos noone wants to brake into a shed when theres only one light on and it pointing at the door of the shed!

Your disc locks are easy to move a bike for robbers they just use a skate board i heard of a fellow that heard a skateboard going out his driveway and thought it was odd went out and caught some pricks nicking his bike but i just reckon dynabolt a chain to your shed floor and smash the thread with a hammer so you cant unscrew it and chain your bike to the floor (by the frame)with a heavy duty lock. Plus keep a solid copper pole beside your bed.:)
