2003 FmxAustralia.Com Peoples Choice & Rider Of The Year Awards!

Starting this year and hopefully continuing for many more years to come, at the end of each year a small award presentation will be held to recognize Australian freestyle riders who have truly raised the bar and stepped it up. Two awards will be handed out annually.

The first award being the "2003 FmxAustralia.Com Rider Of The Year Award", the winner of which will be selected by some of Australia's biggest names in the Freestyle scene.

The second award is the "FmxAustralia.Com Peoples Choice Award" and is simply voted for by members of this site. The rider at the end with the most votes wins. You, the members of this site will have to vote for your favourite.

The peoples choice awards are truly special to the riders because they know that without fans, they cannot be out there doing what they love so much.

Please take some time, and vote carefully. Only one vote per person,per IP address is allowed. The awards will be presented to the riders at the special event to be announced later in the year. Voting closes on the 20th December 2003.

Above I've listed a few of the biggest names (in no particular order) for you to vote, if your favourite rider isn't listed, simply reply below with their name and they will be added to the list. Only PRO's and those who have really stepped it up are eligible to enter the Peoples Choice Awards...

Also there is few there that some would not consider pro freestylers, some for example are racers who freestyle mainly for fun. They however ride freestyle at some of the biggest events around and surely have a fan base worth counting in these awards..

No problems, I would love to list everyone but the list would be huge.

in my eyes part of being a freestyler is getting to events and riding at events.

you and alot of you other "pros" where not there, hence you have no say in how it was run or who whould have won.

Can you do turndown Heelclicks? Can you do backflips over that gap? Can you load up your van and get to the gold coast? can you miss a paid demo to risk a comp?

Felli has retired from the sport. And trust me I was just as spewing as everyone else, more so, I would and still do class him as one of my best mates. He just isn't riding anymore and kinda pointless having him there. He too would have got my vote.

As far as the voting is concerned please remember that only the real regulars of the site have so far voted. There is another 550 or so who can vote and its still very early days. Also there is no stopping any one rider asking his mates, girlfriends, sisters and even mum from signing up and voting. All I ask is people do it honestly only vote with one account per real peson....

As for why this award, it is as it says the Peoples Choice Award and who you the people select as your favorite. If its a popularty contest so be it.

your a goose mate, the only person i've seen in oz do better turn downs is urek! and buy the way matts first flips were over a 45 foot gap off a super kicker, and really do we want to go there with who does the most and biggest tricks? i can think of 5 tricks off the top of my head that matt cole can do that only a handful of guys in oz can do. i suppose thats why he is only one of two aussies doi9ng a 3 week trip through asia with ten americans for espn!

I know about the poll looking a little screwy, but please remember its the "locals" of the site who are on daily that have voted so far and its only been going 24hrs..

Only just over 50 people have voted and there is another 550 or so members still to vote and I've emailed them all asking to do so and we seem to be getting around 20 new users a day aswell... It will take time for everyone to vote and there is over a month to go so I think it will even out...

As for the argument, please dont bother arguing, its not meant to start arguments, its simply a stupid poll...

The main award, the rider of year will be voted on by poeple in the industry as I said before, so that should hopefully become in the years to come, something most top Pro's wouldn't mind sitting on thier mantel piece.. This one is peoples choice and as bad as it sounds it isnt based on how good the rider is, simply whom the people choose as their favorite...

i wasnt at that event becasue i was commited to something else as where alot of other guys. either that or they didnt have bikes.
i never said he shouldnt have won,did I? i didnt see that comp and i dont really care to tell you the truth.
i would rather do a 3 day demo with a few mates and have fun then go and ride a comp with crap downramps.

Ok I'm not taking sides or anything like that but I agree with Matt about why he rode the GP, I went too and while I am spewing I missedKing of the Coast, I am glad I went to the GP. Please though, don't argue this in this thread, if you must have this convo, please start another thread or wait till the next big comp and let the scores and riding do the talking....

This poll really has nothing to do with who won what, who can bust this trick or that trick and whatever else, its simply who the users of this site select as their favorite rider. Nothing more, nothing less. It isn't the end all and be all of FMX and its only the users from this site... Its only the first year too...

In the years to come, I'm sure we will have alot more users and votes. This site is a small close community and some riders are friends with alot of memebers here, this does give them a unfair advantange to start with when all the regular users vote. As I said though there is another 550 or so still to vote and they I'm sure will be throwing votes to alot of riders who so far haven't got alot of votes.. Also there is nothing stopping riders hitting up mates and rellies to come and sign on and vote. I just ask people be honest and don't make 20 accounts just to raise their own votes...

Also I have PM'ed Alex from MTX to see if we could do the same poll over there and then combine the votes at the end. If she agrees, it will again level the playing field... I will also shoot off a emails to places like the ADB site/mag too see if we can get a little plug...

Well he rides Road bikes now but in his day he was # 1 SX,MX rider in OZ .. the days Of steven Mc Guire and Eddie warren , Steven Andrews ,Glen Bell , Phil sargent -All TOP RACERS and this guy then was busting shit like no one :) not to say winning races by lap :) ... Anyone remb: these days So what Im saying is Lets get a Oldie Vote going and find out who had a Lasting Inspiration on Us for our Sport we love so much ..
