bury it up to its handlebars in concrete, in a steel box welded shut, underground, on the moon.

Short of that, if someone wants it bad enough its probably going to get stolen. People got a bobcat or something, smashed down a small brick wall tore the steal doors of a bike shop in canberra and stole some bikes.

Have your bike hidden somewhere. I had mine in my bedroom for a while. A mate of mine had his in the kitchen, but it got stolen from there.

And me in the other room with a few surprises if I here them tryin to flog it..hehe..

but as old mate said, if someone really wants it, they will take it...

If you dyno bolt it to the gound. Make sure they cant undo the bolts with a spanner, and that the lock locking the chain up cant be just undone with a pair of bolt cutters. Your security is only as good as the weakest part. Which is usually the padlock.

But tommo, id say yours sounds about as close to secure as ive ever seen. haha. Sounds like you have to get up an hour earlier just to unlock everything.

theres a product you can buy from hardware shops (tie downs) that are like dyna bolting, but its actually an epoxy resin that sets like concrete. I have two of them for my bike with two chains. If your gonna be serious a couple of padlocks in your discs wont do shit, they will just pick it up.

Bailey
25th October 2005, 02:29 PM
You cant really 'Completely' stop them if they want your bike but yeah chains will make them take their time and be noticed easier, luckily for me im the only one with a crf250 over here so i doubt it will go unoticed. So i dont have much experiance in locking them up ive just got mine in a big shed unlocked.

ummm my bike is chained up around a pool filter and (it weights like a tonne) in my shed. It has tried to be stolen by the same kids (aboinginals) that our camera took a pic of. they even had enough guts to come over while me and my dad were in there. ( they didnt get it) so lock it up with a long chain and a heavy duty padlock (steel one) around a heavy item or an item thats stuck to the ground and both to gether is even better

ride it like u stole it kinda of suits this item:) :drunk: :drunk: :Z446: :jive: :jive: :Z446: :drunk: :headbang9

take off your back wheel lock it to the shed in 1 corner and lock your bike on the stand in other corner then they cant roll it out but hopefully they make enough noise to wake you up but the most important thing is to dont let people find out you have a bike dont work on it at night cause people can see you and what you have in your shed when we got our shed built we had it built so it isnt facing the road or no 1 elses house so they cant see whats in there any way hopes this helps

Front Wheels better to take off the bike because its easier for them to grab the swingarm and walk it out of the shed,

ive only ever had to lock my bike up once. Ive had bikes since i was ten and only ever ran a padlock through the disk brakes once... but i live on a property, 100kms from anywhere, and even at the closest town you could probaly leave the bike in the main street and no-body would even look at it.

Ive heard stories of theives lifting bikes over cars, stealing 40 odd bikes past sleeping bikers, its crazy what they can get away with.

Run a small wire from the active pin of a power point plug to the bike, that way the thief will be there for you to kick later. Bwahhahahahahah.

p.s. Dont mull up, you'll forget about the booby trap and get yourself.

you might wanna hook up a neutral wire with it ;)

No Luke, I might NOT. This would guarantee the thief was killed because the safety switch can't detect active to neutral load current, only imbalances between the outgoing active current and the incoming neutral return. If only an active is connected, the core balance units' toroidal core will detect the leakage current to earth and trip the safety switch. This will shock our thief without killing them. The Professor knows electricity better than motos!

GStylEr
17th November 2005, 05:55 PM
I don't think Nutty was saying he would kill them... From the way he's written it, having only the active wire on will shock em then turn the power off so they don't die, leaving you the chance to yes, beat them up of course. It makes sense to me.

What I'd like to know is... Would having 240v connected to your bike stuff the electrics? And I can't quite see how the switch wouldn't trip seeing as the bike is earthed pretty much the same as a person is. But then I don't know that much about it. As for forgetting about it, a timer on the powerpoint should nearly take care of that, just set it to turn off before you get out there and voila.

Well these days, if someone wants something bad enough, they will most likely do ANYTHING to get it... when i first got my RM, i had it inside the actual house in the games room for a bit, lol. But when i had the RM, i used to always chain it up with 2 bike chains. When one of my cousin's were 13, someone stole his racing CR80 from inside his garage... he was devestated... they actually smashed his rollerdoor in and everything just to get it. He had to give up racing too because he & my untie and uncle had no money to replace it... people are seriously brain dead these days and i swear if i ever caught anyone stealing anything of mine, i would put them through so much pain... then call the police :D

We were having a party last saturday night and we were pretty much all fully sloshed, but were in bed by 1am, and some stupid shits smashed the garage window and nicked off with 1 of our mates '05RM250 and another mates '01 CR125. Fully gutted. They people who stole them wouldve been scoping us out all day/night coz we had heaps of people stopping on the side of the road (our riding compound is right next to the road) and watching/taking pictures&videos of us all. Freaky shit.

Yep.. Selling their locks and chains at work, while alot of customers are put off by the added cost they carry over Magnum for example, definatley worth it.

Dynabolt it to the ground, throw one of their chains around the rear rim/frame,possibly a xena lock on the front rim so if its moved the alarm will go off. Things like thigs are good options and convenient to use. Securing your bike to a fixed object is always a good one.

As the boys have said though,if they want it bad enough they'll take it-maybe invest in a rottie aswell:p

Disc break lock wont work .. they just grab a skate board or similar and use the to move it.. Id invest in a better system if i was you..

My bike use to live in the house but, its moved into the shed now very disapointed but we have a huge mulching machine and ive got my bike chained to that and a generator aswell ... good luck moving all that at the same time plus it probly wouldn't fit out the shed door neways.

Make a small mirror maze and put your bike in the centre.
Most of these pricks are dumb shits and when they go to pick up your bike they will prob smash some mirrors in the process, because they would be in a daze with their torch light shining back into there eyes.
They also would be so excited as the reflection would cast a 100 bikes in all directions. Any thing to throw them off, reflections have a funny way of sneeking up on you and scaring u half to death.

Oh and chain the bike just to make sure.

I used to use 2 Master padlocks through the f & r disc's. Also one of those ground securing plates with a hard plastic tubing coated cable, dyna bolted into the concrete.
( Make sure u weld the heads of the dyno bolts to the plate so the pricks can't unbolt it )
I also used to keep my angle grinder and any cutting tools in a small safe inside the house just so they couldn't use them to steal my bike

Put it this way... let me expalin it to all.. If someone really wants your bike then i can tell u right now it is theirs. NO MATTER WHAT! Secondly.. i had mine and my brothers bike chained up like wild pigs! my brother had padlocks on hes disks and they bolt cutted the disc in peices. My bike has chanis through it in every direction and they still were able to get it free. When my cousins or close mates used to come around they used to laugh at the way we had our bikes locked up and say "man i'd shake the ****heads hand who would ever try to break in here and steal ur bikes." well now he can shake their hands all day long. And while hes doing it he can toss them off at the same time! The F uckers got in and got our bikes free untill cops cought em... Two days later they came back and stole my brothers bike! My bike would be gone too but it wasnt there at the time!!!!!
Moral to the story is...! If they want it its theirs!

Like you drive into your garage and the floor goes down into the basement under the house.

The only way to get under there , and by using a pass keypad ,so its safe for me.

I have two maltese shitzu's guarding my kx250 and cr125...other than that theres nothing stopping theives...but i have a plan ;) buy two of those cheap motion detector toys from target or k-mart and place one about 10cm infront of each wheel.. hook up the speaker beside ur bed... with a weapon of your choice near you.... that way, if the bike moves out of the 20cm restricted area your alarm will sound.. you'll wake up and get ready to slaughter those kents..and i doubt there would be a false alarm because the bikes not gonna go anywhere by itself..

anyways just a thought from my unique head.. :Z440:

a good idea is to rent a shed from stoarge sheds and leave it there..
otherwise I have already had one of my bikes stolen so now I have a chain.(can't remember the name but is the type of steel that can't be cut with boltcutters)around my frame then around the post holding the shed up,with a masterlock padlock (cost a lot more but worth it)which can't be cut with boltcutters, then I have a disc lock I brought from a bikeshop. and the shed itself is locked . not oxy proof though

31st January 2008, 08:20 PM
i have seen these padlocks that go on your disks and they are motin detectors so if your bike is rolled or shaking it sounds an alarm but the down side is batteries and a ***** to change and when they are low the alarm goes off over nothing. everyone knows no matter what they will get it if they want so you just have to try and slow them down. my bike isnt locked up and our shed isnt even locked but if someone goes in there, there is a bullmastiff x pitbull in there waiting for your arse. a mate had 12 bikes dirt and road all locked up in a cage in his shed one morning he went out there everything gone and the cage had been oxy cut and all the chains cut. everything gone.

I put the bike in the back shed. Then i have a thick ass chain around its rim to a pole supporting the shed thats in da ground. Then i lock the shed. Have a rotweiler and staffy in the backyard. Have 2 gates to get through both with locks does that sound good. Not mention the booby traps on the way(DOG POO). haha

Ahh just reading over this thread makes me want to run all the way home and lock up my bike properly lol. Its just sitting in my shed which doesnt lock properly, on a crate with front wheel off and one fork missing. Front wheel is locked to the back wheel and swingarm with a crappy cable lock. I guess it still saves someone running in and pinching my front wheel. Half the forks somewhere in the shed and the other halfs at the shop. So I guess that would be a bit of an inconvenience caus forks aint cheap. :)

Though on occasion I will forget to close the shed with the bike unlocked facing directly to the street and its still there in the morning. :p But I dont live in surburbia. :)

i'm just glad i don't even have to worry about any of this......

We are the only the only ones that live along our road ( which in fact ends at our front gate.... ) and we're 50 km from the nearest town which is a shithole anyways.....:p

If anyone turned up they could take anything and everything because nothing of ours is locked up....our house CAN'T even be locked up.....lol

But we do have 6 dogs ( working dogs ) that bark and go off at anyone that comes so that would probably deter anyone.....:)

But yeah....i just feel very sorry for all you guys that have your bikes and shit stolen.... but i can't say i know how you feel because it's never happened to me.....

Sensor disc lock alarms work well, you can hear them clearly from about 10 meters away and they ring for long enough to scare away a thief. As for the thiefs that do get the bikes, obviously a chain won't do much as they are gonna probably bring some sort of cutter. I was reading a motorbike mag today and it said that an average of 21 motorbike are stolen a day in Australia..Which is pretty crap..

you can get the kryptonite chains which cant be cut with boltcutters and weld the tops of the dynobolts or they will just unbolt the bracket on the floor :P

no entrance to my garage from the front of the house, theres a chained gate and a dog between my backyard and the front, a bedroom window faces a walkway to the backyard and my window faces the backyard, my dog barks at the slightest sound and i have lots of poles in my room so ill just knock anyone who tries to steal it with a concrete filled trolley pole and stomp their heads in, tie them to a chair and torture them for a day then get the police over to take them away. A vicious dog warning sign may make people think twice about what they do plus anyone who knows who my family is wouldn't try something like that anyway :p

i will add to all this locking your bike stuff that as i found out your bike isnt even safe on a trailer...i stopped into my mates house about 7:30pm on the way back from riding and i was only there 20 minutes but it was long enough for this bloke to cut my straps and get the bike half way off the tralier before he realised it had locks in the disc's and had 5 fit blokes chasing him...end of the story he wont be trying to steal a bike again...

Seriously you get some weak people who wont buy their own stuff, Good thing about mine kinda. Is we got a german Shepard who patrols our house pretty much, Got 1 of the cars parked up close to the garage door so they gotta move the car, Open the garage quietly so the dog wont hear them, Cut my Locks get it all out before the alarms go off.

That's racist as all ****.
My 125 was chained to a fence on the inside at dads work being advertised, 1pm when they having there lunch break, a car pulls up, ah yeah might be checking it out, then the car goes, couple minutes later braap, ya here the 125 go. They cut the fence in the middle of the day in front of the bosses office. It was a busy main street and the dude took off with no helmet or anything and we found out where he went, dad got in the closest work car and chased him but lost him, people across the road seen it happen and know the car and we have a rough idea where he lives. The bike was found half in a lake when they got caught by other people and they dumped it. Now that was a kunt of a thing to get back from the cops as we had no numbers and they ripped and scratched em off, also ripped a full sticker kit of and painted plastics gold. The dude was white just so ya no honda rider...

yeah i park my car in front of the garage, means they gotta break into it without the allarm going off and then move my bike without setting the disk alarm off, i reckon the disk alarm is the best protection, if u put it up under the swingarm they aint gonaa see it till its to late and if they do they will probs think its just a standard disc lock

i have a big eylet thing its a T shaped has 6 holes is made of 15mm stainless plate and its fixed to the ground with 12mm threaded rod and chemset the heads of the bolts are welded so you cant wind it off then ive got some thick stainless steel chain running through the eyelet with a old mtb tube wraping it so it wouldnt scrape my rims and frame then it was locked with a big **** off stainless steel lockwood padlock. and i dont leave my angle grinder at home so they cant use that and you cant cut stainless steel with a oxy so my bike is pretty secure. can you tell ive had a bike stolen before ?

Ahah scary shit.. Mines got a normal chain from the wheel to the frame and a lock.. Under the bak deck along with me bmx and bmx race bike n tramp bike, mountain bike all being unlocked.. But winmalee is like the safest, least derro town in the mountains and like not 1 aisian or black person.. Soo safe but.. U only get a bike stolen if u leave it somewhere. I used to leave mine out the front under a tree and neva got stolen.. Its scary but coz i always think to myself my moto's gonna get stolen 1 day and i need to lock it up better but i neva get around to doing anything about it.. On a free rider dvd or something they advertised this lock and it had a really high pitched ear pearcing alarm on it.. They are like the best thing to lock your bike with.. They rly fat and heavy duty and like no chance of any1 getting away with it..

Hahahahahaa, that made me laugh lol, i sometimes put a lock through my backsprocket and though the chain guide brace, but only when im somewhere, at home i think im pritty much safe living in the middle of woop woop.

a mate had like 5 chains through everynook and cranny on his CRF250 it was brand new.
but instead of chaining them all to themselves he chainthem to a central point with 2 padlocks.
when he went back the next day
the bike was gone and there was a note saying,
"next time you chain up your bike don't forget to take the keys out of the lock"
he learnt his lesson quick smart.

good luck getting my bike..chained to the floor of the shed..has to get it past a car with alarm on..then you will have to get it past 2 dobermans and a boxer...if you make it though all that watch out for the baseball bat smacking you on the back of the head..

if you wanna sorta trick them, it can be pricey, but just get a couple of chains into the ground and stuff, and then put a tracker up in the plastics or somewhere where it wont be going anywhere, and they can be followed from a long way away (depending on the quality)

chemi set a u bolt into concrete.....nothing will be able 2 rip it out...i work in construction and use chemi set (which is a mixture of 2 chemicals 2 make a glue) then just use a good bit of chain and a good lock....there are also disc locks called "zena" which actually have a motion alarm on them,as soon as its locked its activated, any motion or conttact with the lock will set it off, its 120db so u'd havta be deaf not 2 hear it,not that expensive either, think they are between $60 and around $200.....worth it considering how much we pay for bikes!!

the way i secure my bikes are to build cages and lock them inside and have a big muther fu cker of a dog guarding my backyard. My dogs saved my bike getting stolen twice now. Now i keep a golf club under my bed.

best ive seen was a Triumph-Tiger road bike, 3ft into the concrete & bolted down with a chain off a side-loader truck (about as thick as a body builders bicep)

Tips i was given:
*if you keep it in a shed that uses a padlock, have the padlock on the inside of the door (bolt cutters wont fit through the small hole, wont have enough strength to cut lock with minmal hand movement).
*dont use cheap s##t chain or locks, or advertise your bike for the neighbours to see (backyard start ups/revving because a friend wants to hear it etc)
*watch your rear-view mirror when driving home, never go straight home, do a lap around the block to make sure the car behind isnt following to see where you live.
*a few things i do is chain front wheel, chain rear wheel, chain kickstart lever to frame, pop the spark lead off the plug, sometimes i take off the exhaust tip so if they do happen to roll it down the street and start it, its gona sound like thunder lol (4-stroke).

most people who steal from backyard sheds/garages etc are idiots, but you will be also if you chain up your bike but have bolts cutters & other tools laying around wich they can use. (my garage has a motion sensor alarm inside it)

*for those who have dogs, if you find your dog bleeding from the mouthe & a##, your house is gona get hit! beware, having a dog means nothing, its just a small obsticle.(pls let me know if this one was a bit explicit)

*if selling a bike, and only one person arrives to see it never let them do a test ride, my brother had his Camry stolen, the bloke drove to a RMZ450 for sale, asked for a test ride if he left the car and the keys with owner...owner says OK!, guys fangs down the street and never returns (my bro got his car back, guy selling bike never seen it again)

Hope this helped:)

Spose it doesnt rly matter where you live because they'll usually
see your bike on the back of ur car and follow you home,, then
come back a few days later to get it.

how about just buy insurance fellas? don't leave ur bike outside. the 80 or so a month isn't much for full comprehensive cover.. (costs me about 110 a month for a 2011 450) and as long as its left in a locked garage or shed its all sweet. like its been said before chains and shit are just an obstacle, if they want the bike they're gunna take it.

yeah my cr125 got pinched in march this year and it was chained to a pole, since buying my new 450 ive dyno bolted 4 crane chains though out my bike locked with hardend steele padlocks and welded over the nuts so the cant be undone then i have 2 motion sencord alarm locks on it, on top of that i got an old cage from work that is around my bike and it is dyno bolted and has concrete over the bolts, and there is closed circut around the house, and i tell ya if ya bike ever gets stolen you would go to the same extreme aswell
