Hello all I have a 01 RM 125 and it hase a silencer on it and my friends say i should get another pipe thats not a silencer because the silencer restricts the power of my mechine. Please tell me what you think of the idea.

How much power difference is there between a silencer and a normal pipe?

it is not so much adding more power, but really shiffting the power into another part of the rev range. personally i reckon aftermarket pipes are a waste of money.

BWAHAAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!! this is the funniest thread i have ever heard!!

a silencer gives the speed. you cannot get anything different, a normal pipe is a silencer. but you can get different sized silencers. like shortys, stock ones, to the stock aftermarket. those are a little bit shorter then the actual stock ones.

they call them silencers, because if you take it off, it is loud.
and like stavross said, getting aftermarket pipes are a waste of money. they make your bike sound better.

if you want better response, get a V-Force Reed Block. they will give your powerband quicker. worth $350, and is worth every cent.

it would be very rare to get a 2nd hand V-force reed block.
an after market muffler is about $300.. a little more, a little less. if you have the dough, go the reed block

This is probably a stupid question but would a 250 reed block fit a 125?

i wouldnt think so because a 250 has a bigger carby.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but i was just double checkin something i said in another thread and needed to look this one up and thought I'd reply while i was here.....

There seems to be a lot of confusion with the terms of "silencers, mufflers and pipes" And i think the main reason is, because people intertwine their car terminology with thier bikes. They call a bike exhuast system a "muffler" and people get confused. Cars have mufflers, exhuasts, cats, and so on, bikes on the other hand only have 2 parts and their technical terms are: A "Header Pipe which is the 1st large bit that comes out of your engine, as if you didn't know, and the Silencer which attaches to the "header pipe" in the middle of the bike and flows out the back. Now you can, obviously get different "aftermarket" brands and sizes, and shapes of these to make your bike react differently and most actually make more noise than the stock part, which actually defeats the purpose of calling them "silencers" but the fact remains thats what they are called, you have stock and aftermarket "header pipes", and stock and aftermarket "silencers". So if ya say one of those 2 descriptions, people will know what your on about, where as if ya go sayin "I got a new "muffler" for my bike, they wont know what bit ya on about.

Um, yeah, and thats my 2 cents on the matter. Wooooooo HEADER PIPES AND SILENCERS! Yaaaaaaaaaay :lolsign:

i would personally go for a new chamber and pipe to give the extra power over a reed block. this is because better sound, more power and looks way better than stock crap.

i dont know if they are are total waste of money, i've ridden my friends cr125 its stock, my bike has a fmf system on it i reckon the power is way better just seems more POW!! if u know what i meen.

isn't replacing exhaust and stuff to do with differing power ranges?

Like one exhaust's better for mid end and so on and so on?...

yeh if your gonna replace a part of the system is it better to replace the header pipe or chamber i got just a power core and it makes a bit of difference
