I cut mine using a turkey cutter and just made one pass through the seat where i wanted it so that when I sell it I just have to stick the top part back on the seat and cover it.

My opinion, is unless ya use ya bike 100% for freestyle and do grab tricks, there's no point in cuttin down ya seat. Unless your that interested in doin' freestyle along with motocross and trails, then splash out on a second hand one and chop it as Kyle said :)

Well jump higher off your bike.

It's only an opinion which Brad has made. It doesn't mean you are not allowed to. But I'm all for that opinion of his:)

If you have trouble with cans, a shaved seat most likely isn't going to help. The area where most people put their feet over is not thick anyway, and is usually almost exactly the same height once cut. If you have problems with cans, then yes you can jump higher off your bike as Robbo said, or alternatively try a higher bend bar and/or raisers. From personal experience, it helps, the seat doesn't. It only helps with grab tricks, and possibly double nac tricks if you come close to your bike...

To the original question, yes I think you should buy another, then cut down the most haggard looking of the two. I myself bought a secondhand pre-cut seat for $50 plus postage, quite the bargain I feel for a complete seat... However with that said, if you find a shaved seat to be comfortable enough to still trailride and do MX with it, then there's not too much need to get another one, apart from resale value, as not everyone wants a cut seat. That's part of the reason I got another one.
