I've read on this site before that home and contents insurance will cover any bikes up to 125cc if knocked off from your garage. Just wondering if anyone knows what companies do this?
Our insurance has said that they wont cover any motorbike, only mowers and stuff.
Just had my trailer knocked off yesterday out of my front yard i'm wondering whats next.
atm my KX125 is upstairs in our 2-storey house in the spare room, with the front wheel off (it's with me at work) and a friggin big padlock through the sprocket.

Swan Insurance and one other insurer are the only Insurance companies in Australia that will cover Dirtbikes for theft. It has to be locked at all times and cost around $350-$400 a year for coverage.
May I ask, how the hell did you get you bike upstairs in your house?

I just carried the bike upstairs with my brother in law, one on the front one on the back, a fair bit of friggin around though.
I know that JLT and Swan insure them, but I'm trying to get it covered under the house contents because I have to pay that anyway. atm I have insurance for 2 cars and a house, it all adds up.
Santa Claus has a PW50 in his sack lined up for my son at XMAS too, (that prick gets all the credit) so if I insure mine and his seperate the annual premiums are starting to get out of hand.
I am a tight arse I know, but Pro-circuit pipes are expensive and I really want one of them, you have to have priorities you know.

i will just say one thing
bolt your bike to something, floor, pole, dog, whatever
one padlock thru the sprocket wont do shit for determined thieves, even if it is upstairs!
i knew this guy that had a harley parked in front of a valiant in his garage(like fully up against the bike which was up against the back wall) He had a padlock in front and rear sprockets and they freakin LIFTED the thing right up and OVER the VALIANT, im not shitting you, and thru the LOCKED garage door. Now this is a 230 kilo harley so a little 125 would be childs play!

Yeah, I know your right. ATM what I have got will have to do until I can get some decent hardened chain and locks. I work for a metal fabricators, so a frikken big chain with a hardened lug bolted to the floor should settle it.
I reckon that insuring your bike through home and contents must not be possible though

welcome to the club, I had shit load of gear and my trailer stolen this year it bites.
My advice is to store everything separate. I made the mistake of leaving my gearbag and gear in the shed because I had been riding and when I went to go riding the next time it was all gone. They literally packed the gearbag.
I found JLT to be the cheapest which was $290 or something for my 250f. The only catch was it had to be locked to a fix object which is no big deal. Pretty sure it is covered in transit too. I also chain it up with big ass chains, heavy duty padlocks and if its sitting for more than a few days I take a wheel off. The more locks and chains u have on it the harder it is for them to get it and they just may decide that it isnt worth it.

All,
Just insured my CR250 with Suncorp for fire & theft for $200. That is well worth the piece of mind, so if any of u were being scared off by $400 + quotes, give them a try.
Cheers.

I have got both my 125 and 80 insured with Jardine Lloyd Thompson.
They specialise in just DirtBike Insurance.
It costs me $296 a year for the both of my bikes.
I reccomend them as it covers 3rd party, fire, theft AND damage whilst in transit
(so if your bike falls off the back of the trailer - your covered)
Check out the wesbsite ---> http://www.jltsport.com.au/dirtbikes/

sad to hear mate, ppl can be suck pricks!
but shouldn't you have found out about the coverage and claim information BEFORE you insured???
i mean, I wouldn't personally fork out any money for an insurance policy covering my bikes that wouldn't pay out any money if the bikes got stolen?!?! regardless of the CC's and if they could/couldn't be road registered....
I mean, thats why your insuring them??
sounds dodgy to me!

Suncorp now insure bikes. Got my KX125 insured for $6000 or market value, with a $350 excess for $225/year. This is for 3rd party, fire and theft.
They wont cover you while you are racing, or practicing at a race track, but will cover you on private property. you don't void your cover if you do race, they just wont cover you while you are at a race track.
I only really got the policy, so as it is covered for theft while at home. Only stipulation is that it must be in a locked garage.
There is no clause about having it locked up with chains either, although I still will be.
They wont cover the cost of any after market parts.
