View Full Version : Graphics Contact?

Right, at the moment, I'm not a happy bloody camper. I've been off the bike for damn near 2 months now waitin to get everything finished in the way of Graphics and the like. Here's my quandry: I put my new graphics on, as you all seen, I rode twice after that, and it started to peel the stickers back where my legs gripped the seat/tank. So i decided not to ride till i got them covered in contact.
To cut a long story short, i got clear thick, smooth proper bike contact from the local moto joint and applied it to the shroud and tank........all was good......untill i went back over to the shed to bolt my shroud back on this arvo and low and behold the contact on the tank had bubbled behond anything i could describe, it looked like that bloody bubble wrapping shit, only worse.
What causes this? Should the tank contact be different like that shit with the little slits all over it.?.?.? cause thats what i personally think the whole lot should have been, i ordered thick bike contact and got the old girl to pick it up when she was in town, and when i seen this shit she bought home, i said it was the wrong stuff cause it didn't have holes in it everywhere. So now cause of this i have to get half of my graphics kit remade.

.......................................:bastard:.. ..........................................

So,

1) what causes this shit to bubble?
2) Should all contact used on Graphics be "holy"?

fuel tanks need to breath, the cause of this problem is the fumes from the petrol coming out and have no were to go so they bubble up in random spots. get a pin or razor and stab or slash holes in the contact so the fumes can get out.

Now ya see, I'm gunna drag the old man in here to read that THANKYOU Kyle. I said EXACTLY the same thing, but good ol' Dads know best aye "na na na, that's not right son, Fumes shouldn't come through plastic" But i did say, "no no father dearest, i do believe you are wrong, i have heard many a stories about contact and stickers bubbeling due to Fuel Fumes" or something to that effect :p

Ah yes, well everyone knows that, and that was my point exactly, The stuff the moto shop got in, i said was the wrong stuff cause it didn't have slits in it, yet they said, na na, thats the right stuff........ So I've made my choice to change suppliers, just 1 thing in a list of others that shit me about them, more interested in the money behind the deal then any good advice.

Well, got the "Perpherated" contact i needed for my tank on Friday, and I get my replacement graphics parts on Monday, so all is good, should be back in the saddle on Monday arvo.........if we dont get any more rain. :D
If anyone wants thick bike contact, I am getting mine through a local Car Tinting and Sign Writting place, same place that did my graphics, and its $20 per 40cm x 100cm sheet. HALF the price the moto shop charges for half that size of the exact same shit.

lol, fuss fuss fuss all over a little contact ya would think aye....well it's just a pain in the ass is all, it wouldn't be such a big deal if people actually had shit in stock, and didn't try and rip ya off when they did get it in. At the moment, it's taken me over 2 months to get 3 sheets of contact in............;doh; and thats only cause i switched suppliers......I'd still be waitin if I was stickin with me local moto joint, cause they STILL havent got any in.
Hence why i was shitty. Pic you say? well I'll put one up of me new graphics, but I'm sure you've allready seen it....i could wait till i get me contact, on but.....why? it's clear.....wouldn't see any difference :)

This is a close up of the other pic I've posted.:
