Los Angeles, CA - Harper Collins has acquired the world rights to seven-time AMA Supercross champ Jeremy McGrath’s autobiography.

Aptly entitled, WIDE OPEN, the book will provide an incredibly candid look into the Supercross legend’s life on and off the track, including early childhood antics, amateur years and amazing insight into the thoughts and actions of winningest rider in Supercross history.

Jeremy’s collaborator on the project is Chris Palmer, a popular staff writer at ESPN Magazine and Harper Collins’ Senior Editor Josh Behar is editing the book. Rights to McGrath’s story were negotiated by literary agent Marc Gerald of Los Bravos Management, with day-to-day management of the project coming from Cheryl Lynch, McGrath’s publicist for more than 7 years, who is now helping to manage McGrath’s post-retirement career. WIDE OPEN, will be published in hardcover and will hit store shelves in January 2004.

Although earlier this year McGrath announced his retirement from Supercross, a sport which has seen attendance mushroom in the past 3 years from 700,000 spectators a year to over 1.5 million, McGrath remains busier than ever. According to McGrath, “Retirement has been a lot of work! I spent a lot of time with Chris and I know there are things in this book that absolutely no one has ever heard me discuss or probably even knew about me. I wanted people who have followed my career to read it and say...I didn’t know that! And I think this book does just that.”

WIDE OPEN will give fans a stadium view of McGrath’s great on-track battles, professional dealings with his sponsors, teams and career associations, overseas competitions and sidebars to help anyone become a Supercross champion in their own right.

In addition to working on WIDE OPEN these nine months into Supercross
retirement, McGrath has helped to organize and create a Supermoto team (Team Troy Lee Designs Honda); has raced the first two rounds of the Red Bull Supermoto series; been part of the popular car show circuit with a custom Hot Rod he and has father, Jack own and show together. Additionally, it was recently announced that on October 5th, McGrath will be inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, in Columbus, Ohio, which honors those who have contributed notably to the sport of motorcycling.
