AURORA, Ill. - Clawson Motorsports brings IFMA Freestyle Motocross Presented by XM Satellite Radio back to the Selland Arena in Fresno September 12 & 13, as the worlds best freestyle motocross (fmx) riders compete for a $30,000 purse and IFMA (International Freestyle Motocross Association) supremacy.
With a new competition format, the IFMA has eliminated the second round of competition and added three specific skills competitions. Round two will consist of three separate varying skills competitions: a doubles competition, stoppie competition, and the final eliminator. Up to four winners from the skills disciplines may also transfer to the final round. Each of the 14 competitors must participate in one of the three selected disciplines that make up round two. A competitor must win one of the three skills competitions to advance to the finals from round two. If a rider who has already qualified for the finals out of round one and wins any of the three skills competitions he will prevent another rider from advancing to the final from that skills competition.
Here are some examples of skills competitions that could be used at any given event: Doubles - A team of two riders compete in a one minute synchronized run (two riders have the opportunity to advance). Stoppie - front wheelie competition, the winner who does the longest stoppie advances. Wheelie - The winner will do the longest wheelie. Eliminator - A timed competition riders will be judged on how fast he or she can get around the FMX course; each rider must perform three pre-determined tricks in the fastest time.
In the first round, riders will still compete in a one-minute freestyle qualifier. The top six scores from round one will transfer into the finals. The final round will be a two-minute freestyle run of up to 10 competitors for a no-holds-barred final round. The last man sitting in the Hot Seat wins the event.
In 2003, the IFMA brings top young guns Myles Richmond and David Demangos; both competed in the 2003 X Games and finished in the top ten. Richmond from Cherry Valley, Calif., has become one of the top competitors in freestyle motocross. Robert and John Distler, of Tempe, Ariz., will also be competing in September at the Selland Arena.
