i am after some info on organizing a small to medium fmx event in western victoria . the local speedway are interested but would like info on what public liability is required and other hidden costs . they would most likely look at runnin it after the speedway season and that finishes in april may here. as a event they would most likely look at having a few pros there but would want a good field of amatures to see how the event would go. they can probly get use of 2 steel ramps so far plus maybe a few others. so any info would be a great help

I think if anyone here has the info on costs of ANY sort when it comes to fmx events, Adam is the one you should direct enquiries to, NOT Nick.

Errr umm the main costs are:
Insurance - We where lucky in the fact the venue we used was covered for events and freestyle in particular and we got our public liability included in the cost of the venue hire. This is one of the reasons, it was held where it was held. Insurance is extremely hard to get and expensive so I would sort that first.
The Ambulances - Cost about $5.000 to have them at the Pro Am, although yer we had alot of them, 2 Ambulances and 4 cars I think we had. Also we used both the Red Cross and St. Johns and in my opinion while St. Johns did a ok job, the Red Cross crew where 10 times better. It started out the other way around but in the end we used mainly St. Johns in the public area and Red Cross in the Arena as they had MICA paramedics on the their team and they took great care of the injured riders..
Making the track - It cost a packet to get a big CAT front end loader then add the dump truck at a hourly rate aswell. We also had the best track builder in OZ, Brooksy come out with his bobcat to give it all its final shape. We where also lucky as we could get the dirt near by, 800 Tons I think was the figure given to me of the amount of dirt we used.. It was alot anyway, we used all the dirt from Full Throttle's thumper X track then added another 100 or so truck loads. Ontop of all that we had to hire crowd barriers, light towers, generators and all that stuff.
Riders Costs - Whilst I don't think your planning something as big as the Pro Am, bear in mind that you will need to pay travel costs and accomdation for the Pro's aswell as apperance money. This was one of main costs of the Pro Am and while we budgeted for about 10 - 12 pro riders, the turnout took us by somewhat by suprise and completly blew our budget out of the water when over 20 entered.
Other bits and pieces - Our other main costs where printing of posters, signage and banners, not to mention the 5000 programs we printed. We also paid alot to media companies and advertising on just the radio wasn't cheap either. My time and phone bills where other huge costs, I left full time employment and worked numerous 18 hour days for the 13 weeks prior to the pro am and with the constant phone calls needed to pull it all together. My mobile bill for the months leading upto it was easy $4,000 add to that my home phone/fax and internet costs aswell. Also don't forget Nicks time and stuff too, he spent alot of time working on the event and he would have had big phone bills aswell.
Things like portable toilet hire and all that costs alot aswell be sure to work out all those sorts of things aswell as remembering you will need lots of people to man gates, ticket boxes and to work out on the track.
As you can see there is alot more costs than you first realise.
There was a heap of other costs aswell but I cant be bothered typing anymore, those are all the main ones I can think of off the top of my head, I have the flu bad and Im going back to bed...
