As you may have noticed FmxAustralia has been down for a little while... Let me explain why, first up when I tried to move the database to our new server I discovered that we had massive amounts of attachments in the database compared to even some of the biggest forums on the entire net and this caused major hassles as it was pushing the SQL database and server to the limit. Backing up, moving and repairs start to take days to complete....

This in turn means that when corrupt tables happen in the database it becomes hard and slow to fix (years I think it was to fix all mine lol) and normally I wouldn't bother as long as the site works... Its when you start to try and move the database interesting things start to happen and normally I would just give up and say stuff it lets start fresh with a new board...

But and its a big but I didn't wanna loose all the images and stuff so I am trying a work around. I intended to upgrade to the newest version of VBulletin anyway and now I've done it before I moved because it handles attachments alot differently.

The way it handles the attachments SHOULD make it possible for me to move the site to the new server without loosing all the attachments, users ect ect.... The upgrade process itself was a nightmare and took 48+ hours and after a few very long nights, lots of headaches and sore eyes I THINK I've got most of the site working again... My main problem was trying to keep the attachments when I move servers, that in turn meant the early upgrade Although we HAVE NOT MOVED to the new server yet as I had to upgrade first, we are back up running sorta. lol

Please be patient as I finish the upgrade to the site, get it all working and then try to move it all to the new server again... I know the site looks crap but trust me, just to get it to what you see know took a hell of alot and I am working on making it look better but I need sleep now and figure I might as well let you lot break the site while its kinda working.. Its better than keeping you locked out for a few days while I work... ;)

If you have any problems, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know and post the details in here. Dont continue 100 times to get something to work, if it doesn't work once or twice, please just give up and come here and tell me... The upgrade scripts wouldn't work with my "hacked" up site so the upgrade had to be done the long and hard way. I still don't know if its all ok, but yer we are up again which is a start and alot more than I thought possible at 3am yesterday when I nearly deleted the whole site....

Also note, alot of things HAVEN'T been setup yet so please leave them be till I get to them..

Good work Adam, I can only imagine how much sleep you've missed out on over the past couple of days, but it all looks worth it now the site is at least back up on the internet ;).
The only good thing to come out of this, is I haven't been distracted while doing my Uni assignments and I actually got some done haha :D

Ah well, better get ready for a few more disruptions but on the whole it's looking good mate. (Can't wait to see the little quick reply back at the bottom of every thread ;))

The quick reply works a little differently, you have to click on the feather button on a post to activate the quick reply, might confuse newbies and even the older members :)

Since you're re-doing the entire site, have you thought about actually having the Shops products in a more extensive list down the side of the main view, and allow purchases to go through this page? Might get a few more sales that way.

I like the way the navigation at the top works with drop down menu's for Quick Links and Search aswell, makes for less timeconsuming viewing :)

I can make it so you don't have to click for quick replies however, this will be at the expense of the usefulness of the Threaded and Hybrid view modes, as the system will not know to which post a user is replying, so the threaded view will become non-sensical.

I dunno what non-sensical means but thats what VB tells me so I left it so you had to click... lol

BTW if the "side bar" annoys you, you can turn it off in the "Quick Links" dropdown menu at the top of this page...

Is that how it normally is, or is that a new part of VBulletin that we need to get used to? Although I do like the fact we can post more than one image in a post though :)

If more than one attachment is added, it will use a link to the files instead of displaying iin the thread...

Good to see the site up and running again, it takes a little longer to attach pics so they show in the thread, but ohwell, and now i have to put a caption or heaps of ....... instead of numbering the pics cause it has a 10 letter minimum post thing. Can't wait till ur finished, Can u change it so when u attach multiple images they all show so users don't have to click the link?

Also I jumped the gun on the style deal in my last post, I just whipped up another Style or Theme, its nothing special just looks a little better so yer you can use that until I get sorted on the proper themes.. There is a drop down box on the top right of the main page... :)

Either quick links or userCP >>> select Edit Avatar in the drop down quick links or the menu of the left of UserCP... Once thats selected it should have a custom avatar box down the bottom where you can upload ect... If not, it must be turned off in the user permission group or something.. let me know how ya go... ;)
