JONO PORTER is back in the saddle -- and heading for Sydney SuperDome, round 4 of the SUPERCROSS MASTERS, August 9.

Porter’s entry is in to tackle the Pro Open class on the biggest and wildest indoor venue on the Australian Championship schedule.

His return from injury bangs him straight into the cauldron… the competition hotting up with the local Supercross Masters series contenders confronted by defending champ CRAIG ANDERSON and first-time US visitor TOMMY HOFMASTER.

The versatile Queenslander Porter has been licking his wounds since last March when a practice mishap buried him in the dirt.

Jono defied surgeons’ predictions; at worst, he was told his career might be over; or he could be facing non-action for six months.

A broken scaphoid wrist bone was only part the problem… he had sustained wrist tendon damage.

But JP has subjected himself to some medical fast-tracking, shaving months off his convalescence. Now he’s looking for the same speed out on the track.

Porter retreated to his Gladstone family home, disbanding a new compound he had established in the Maitland district for his own JPI race team.

There he and dad Doug have carved out a new supercross layout in their backyard and so the grind begins to be ready for the SuperDome on August 9.

Further Porter, one of the few full-professionals in the world who contest both race competition and freestyle motocross, will attack the ramps of the Airtime Expression Session.

He will join JPI Pepsi Max Suzuki team-mate MATT SCHUBRING in a roof-scraping engagement while his race opposition are catching their breath.

This is an important year for 22-year-old Jono Porter – running his own team for the first time and further choosing to tackle the heavyweight hitters in the Pro Open class for 250 two-strokes and 450 thumpers.

Absence from the ranks means he has zero hope of stalking series leader, Motorex KTM’s JAY MARMONT. But the 2003 campaign now is to win races, not titles.

The task became much tougher with the declaration of entries received from the USA, including the surprise visit from defending Supercross Masters champ Craig Anderson.

Ando, seemingly down and out with a ruptured spleen and broken wrist at the opening of his US career, has climbed back to an AMA motocross title stunner – victory at the gnarley Southwick round in mid-June.

The Yamaha SuperDome assault has been further spiked with the addition of US Arenacross championship runner-up Tommy Hofmaster in his first race meeting Down Under.

And the opposition is due for more hard news expected soon from the Yamaha camp.

Reserved seating is available through Ticketek... outlets, online (www.ticketek.com.au) or phone 132 849. Prices range from silver adult $39.95, junior $27.95... gold $49.45/$41.95...platinum $65.95/$53.95. A family ticket (2 adults/2 juniors) at $107.80 saves $20.

Following the Sydney event, The Supercross Masters will head to Adelaide Entertainment Centre on 6 September followed by Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on 4 October. Stay tuned on Supercross Masters event happenings at www.supercrossmasters.com.au
